Let My Community Help You Pay for College!

My Community Credit Union (MCCU) is pleased to offer six $2,500 scholarships to student members. This scholarship is open to high school seniors, current college students, and members who want to further their education. Please download the attached application and return it to one of our branches or mail to My Community Credit Union, 600 W. Louisiana, Midland, TX 79701, ATTN: Marketing.  DEADLINE  - April 10, 2024.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Scholarship applicant (not applicant's parent) must be a MCCU member with a checking and/or savings account prior to applying.
  • Applicant's account must be in good standing.
  • Applicant be enrolled as a full-time student as defined by students’ college or university.
  • Applicant must submit all required attachments with application; incomplete applications will not be eligible.
  • Awards must be used for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Applications must be postmarked by April 10, 2024 in order to be considered.
  • Scholarship recipients must maintain their membership with My Community Credit Union throughout award period.

Award Criteria:

In addition to eligibility guidelines, the following will be considered in selecting recipients.

  • Academic Performance — Academic performance and honors (On a 4.0 scale, a GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended), class rank, and ACT/SAT test scores (a minimum SAT score of 800 and/or a minimum ACT score of 19 is highly recommended).
  • Activities — Community and school activities, involvement, leadership positions, and awards/recognition
  • Recommendations & Transcripts
  • Essay — On assigned topic

Congratulations to the 2024 My Community Crossroads Scholarship Winners!

Every year, My Community awards $2,500 scholarships to deserving members who have demonstrated academic achievement and desire to pursue higher education. It is our honor to help our members achieve their education goals.

Awards were based on academic achievement, writing assessments, recommendations, and transcripts, as well as the student’s potential, character, leadership and financial need.

Arwen Weaks

Arwen Weaks of Odessa, Texas is a December 2023 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. There, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in Exercise Science and a minor in Sociology. Arwen was also involved in a multitude of extracurricular activities and employments, serving as a Resident Assistant, president of a campus ministry, and executive board member of a social entrepreneurship fellowship. She also completed a Pre-Health Professionals Certificate and has been accepted to all seven Doctor of Physical Therapy schools that she interviewed at. She chose to further her education at Texas State University starting May 2024, and will graduate in May of 2027 with a goal of bringing public health interventions that are effective for rural and other underserved populations. She is a proud member of the MCCU community because she is committed to coming back and serving the region that grew her emotionally, academically, and financially.

Brianna Natividad

Hello! My name is Brianna Natividad & I am a senior at Early College High School. I am attending Colorado School of Mines in the Fall to study electrical engineering. I love to build legos & spend time with my family in my free time.

Jack Haisler

l'm Jack Haisler, a senior at Allen High School. I've been a part of the Allen Band since sixth grade, and I've come to thoroughly enjoy playing the trumpet. Outside of school, I really enjoy working out at the gym, exploring new record stores, and listening to all kinds of genres of music. You'll often find me staying active outdoors, including anything from football, hiking, biking, or swimming. I also really enjoy spending time with my friends, whether that's playing a friendly game of poker or laughing at terrible horror films. Above all else, I might have a slight addiction to anything Dr. Pepper related. Next year, I intend on furthering my education in college with a focus on a business degree. I am beyond excited to start this next chapter of my life. and look forward to many new adventures.

Kirsten Munson

Kirsten is a graduate student at the University of Texas' School of Information. She is primarily interested in Academic Librarianship and Records Management. In 2021, she graduated, Cum Laude, from Austin College (in Sherman, Texas) with a bachelor's degree in Communication, Psychology, and Media Studies.

In her free time, Kirsten enjoys exploring Austin, reading any and all books, and giving back to her community.

Mikayla Deller

Mikayla Deller is currently a sophomore by credits and in her first year at the University of Texas at Austin. She is enrolled in the College of Natural Sciences, where she is a Human Development major. After college she plans to further her education, seeking a Medical Degree through Dell Medical School in hopes of becoming a Neonatal Doctor. Mikayla has enjoyed her first year at UT, joining organizations such as Alpha Xi Delta sorority, Global Medical Training Club, and many Intramural teams.

Paula Garcia

Paula Garcia is a student graduating from Midland College. She was a part of the Primary Care Pathway Program and was accepted into medical school through early admission. She will transfer to the University of North Texas in the Fall for one year and attend the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2025. Paula is excited to come back to the West Texas area to give back to her community that she grew to love.

Sam Weaks

Sam Allen Weaks is a musician studying at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music, working as a writer, producer, arranger, keyboardist, music director, and performer. From the city of Odessa in West Texas, he grew up largely influenced by his environments in both the church and the theater. He carries that inspiration with him today as he continues to reach increasingly wider audiences and expand his network within the industry (at both the Boston campus and the Spain campus).
